Nanoneedling Before an Event: Your Countdown to Glowing Skin

Whether it's a wedding, a big birthday, a photoshoot or an important meeting, most of us want our skin to look its best on the day. Nanoneedling is a favourite for exactly these moments, because it gives a fresh, hydrated glow without the redness of deeper treatments. The secret is timing. Here's a countdown plan to help you get it right.

The short answer: for the best result, start nanoneedling three to four weeks before your event, and do your final session two to three days before. Skip nanoneedling the night before and focus on hydration and sleep instead. If you've never nanoneedled, try it at least two weeks ahead so you know how your skin responds.

Why nanoneedling is ideal before events

  • Little or no downtime. Usually just a brief flush.
  • Fast results. Many people notice a brighter, more hydrated look the next morning.
  • Smoother makeup. A refined, hydrated surface helps foundation sit better.
  • Gentle enough for most skin, including sensitive skin.

Microneedling with needle cartridges, on the other hand, can leave skin pink for a few days, so it's best kept well away from big days.

Your countdown plan

When What to do
6 to 8 weeks before If you want texture benefits, this is the latest time for a microneedling session. Then switch to nanoneedling only.
4 weeks before First nanoneedling session. Note how your skin responds.
3 weeks before Second session, if your skin was calm after the first.
2 weeks before Third session. Stop introducing any new skincare products.
1 week before Focus on hydration. Avoid new treatments, peels or facials.
2 to 3 days before Final nanoneedling session.
The night before No nanoneedling. A hydrating mask, rich moisturiser and early night.
The morning of Hyaluronic acid, moisturiser and SPF before makeup.

Short on time? Even a single session two to three days before can give a noticeable glow, as long as you've tried nanoneedling before.

Your pre-event nanoneedling session

  1. Double cleanse to remove all makeup and SPF. Pat dry.
  2. Disinfect your hands, skin and pen, and let everything dry.
  3. Attach a new, sealed Nano cartridge at the lowest setting and a low speed.
  4. Apply hyaluronic acid section by section as your glide.
  5. Glide lightly over the forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, neck and décolletage. Around the eyes, stay on the bone of the socket.
  6. Layer hydration with more hyaluronic acid and a peptide serum if you use one.
  7. Seal it in with a fragrance-free moisturiser.

Keep it gentle. Before an event isn't the time to add extra passes or pressure.

The night before

  • Skip nanoneedling and any exfoliation.
  • Use a simple hydrating mask or apply a thicker layer of moisturiser.
  • Drink water and limit alcohol and salty food, which can leave skin looking puffy.
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase and aim for an early night.

On the day: makeup tips

  • Start with hyaluronic acid on slightly damp skin, then moisturiser.
  • Let your SPF settle for a few minutes before primer or foundation.
  • Use lighter layers of foundation; well-hydrated skin needs less coverage.
  • Add highlighter sparingly. Your skin's natural glow will do much of the work.
  • Use clean brushes and sponges.

What not to do before a big day

  • Don't try nanoneedling for the first time in the final week.
  • Don't microneedle with needle cartridges in the last few weeks.
  • Don't start new products in the final two weeks.
  • Don't book peels, waxing or new facials in the final week.
  • Don't skip SPF in the run-up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I nanoneedle the day before my wedding?

It's possible, but two to three days before is safer, especially for sensitive skin or if you're new to it.

How long does the nanoneedling glow last?

The immediate glow usually lasts a few days. Regular sessions help keep skin looking brighter and smoother.

Can I microneedle before an event?

Keep needle sessions at least two weeks before, ideally longer. They can leave skin pink for a few days.

Will nanoneedling make me red for photos?

Usually only for an hour or two afterwards, which is why a session two to three days before is ideal.

Can I wear makeup after nanoneedling?

It's best to wait until the next day.

The bottom line

Nanoneedling is one of the easiest ways to look your best for a big day. Start a few weeks ahead, finish two to three days before, keep the night before simple, and let well-hydrated, glowing skin do the rest.
